BEV registrations increase by almost 123% in June compared to previous year
The recent SMMT report on vehicle registrations show more positive news regarding battery electric vehicle adoption in the UK. Compared to June last year, the past month saw an increase of almost 123% in BEV registrations, with a market share over 10.5%, an increase of 4.6% compared to the previous year. When adding this to plug in hybrid vehicles’ numbers, electric vehicles market share reaches 17.2%.
Year to date data also report good news, with an even greater growth – close to 140% - for BEV registrations and a market share increase of 3.4%.
Topping the Best Sellers chart is Tesla Model 3, with almost 5,500 vehicles registered this past month.
Every month leading up to June this year has closed with positive numbers for BEV registrations, proving that EV adoption is growing steadily as we near the 2030 petrol and diesel sales ban. When compared to April and May 2020, the data for April and May this year were particularly significant, with respective increases of 566.1% and 441.3% in BEV registrations, and 108.5% and 145.1% in market shares.
The first trimester of 2021 was also positive, with increases ranging from 40.2% for BEV registrations in February 2021 compared to February 2020, to 88.2%, for BEV registrations in March 2021 compared to the previous year.
